At its core, Lake of Tears is a story of captivity and redemption. Set against the backdrop of Ghana’s hazardous inland fishing industry, this beautifully drawn, imaginatively written graphic novel was originally released online, in four free installments, beginning in November, 2017.

“Yes, there’s a social message,” says co-creator and illustrator, Setor Fiadzigbey, “but creatively, we didn’t hold back. It starts off normally, but then it gets very interesting, very, very quickly.” Indeed, writer and co-creator, Kobe Ofei, has written a brilliant, action-packed script that tells the story of three unstoppable teenagers from very different backgrounds who’ve decided to band together to defeat their common enemy.

Created in partnership with Ghana’s Challenging Heights, which was founded in 2005 by former child slave James Kofi Annan, Lake of Tears will entertain, inform and inspire you to learn more about–and help prevent–child trafficking and forced child labor in Ghana.
